Beforehand, we took the time to download the detailed information sheet for Le Creux de l’Envers, an accessible, shady walk that’s ideal for warming up before your next mountain hike!

The route starts in Gex and then quickly moves out into the countryside. After a short climb, we are greeted by pretty flowers and melodious birdsong.

Le creux de l'Envers is well worth a visit!

We arrive in the undergrowth and follow the Journans, the stream that will guide us along our route. From a few windows, we can admire the view of Mont Rond with its antenna and the famous Creux de l’Envers. At Les Séblines, you won’t want to miss this 180° view of the Jura! The Creux de l’Envers is within easy reach.

Further on, relax by the waterfall! There are two viewpoints from which you can admire the water bursting against the rock. They say it’s even more beautiful in autumn!

The walk ends at the Saracen gates. This round trip along the path takes you close to a “canyon” where a fresh breeze reigns. Close your eyes and let yourself be lulled for a few moments by the gentle sound of the water. You and nature become one.

You return to your starting point and get back to real life, with beautiful panoramas, colours, smells and sounds of nature in your mind. And why not enjoy a picnic or snack along the way?

You can put your coolers down at the Creux de l’Envers sign. There’s a table and bench next to the hut in a shady spot.

Don't forget :

Water, a cap, walking shoes, a mosquito net, binoculars and a camera will be your best allies for a successful walk! You are in the Haute Chaine du Jura National Nature Reserve, so please respect the regulations.

About Stéphanie

A true native of the Pays de Gex, I’ve been lucky enough to grow up with the Jura Mountains on the horizon and Lake Geneva as my neighbour. The Pays de Gex has a unique, almost magical identity, shaped by a striking contrast: on the one hand, the vibrancy of an urban plain, open to the world and brimming with culture; on the other, the serenity and wilder character of the Jura Mountains, perfect for recharging your batteries.

It is this duality that fills me with excitement every day, caught between the hustle and bustle and the great outdoors. Yet, if I had to reveal my secret hideaway – my absolute favourite spot that you simply must visit – it would be Voltaire’s Château in Ferney. It is an inspiring place, steeped in history, where the spirit of the Enlightenment still seems to linger in the park’s paths, inviting you to stroll and reflect.

Discover, through the eyes of a passionate local, the different facets, anecdotes and hidden treasures of this little corner of paradise that I love, more than anything, to call ‘my home’.
