With its peaks offering spectacular views of Lake Geneva, Geneva and Mont Blanc, the mountain range is one of the most beautiful hiking areas in eastern France.

Reaching the Crêt de la Neige, the highest point in the Jura

At 1,720 metres above sea level, the Crêt de la Neige is the highest peak in the Jura Mountains and a must-visit for experienced hikers. From its summit, the view stretches across the entire Alpine range. Setting off from Lélex, the hike takes around 7½ hours. This challenging route winds through the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park and partly through the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve: a protected and unspoilt area to be explored with respect.

Climbing the Reculet

As the second-highest peak in the Jura, the Reculet also offers exceptional views of the Geneva basin and the Alps. The climb is one of the great classics of the Pays de Gex. 

Please note: This is a challenging circular route, ideal for those who enjoy strenuous hiking.

Get your fill of thrills at the Col de la Faucille

A true summer leisure destination, the Col de la Faucille offers a range of unmissable activities to enjoy with family or friends.

Soar along the giant zip line

Set against the backdrop of the Valserine Valley, the zip line offers a spectacular experience. 

The little extra that makes all the difference: It comes with two cables, so two people can descend at the same time, each on their own cable.

Suitable for the whole family, the toboggan run features five bends and a loop. It’s the perfect activity for enjoying the thrills together in complete safety.

Please note: Children aged 5 and over are welcome, and children who are 1.30 metres tall or taller may take part in the activity on their own.

Reaching new heights on the treetop adventure course

Suspension bridges, footbridges, zip lines and tree-top activity stations await visitors of all ages on the Col de la Faucille treetop adventure course.

This tree-top adventure park comprises six courses, some of which are suitable for children aged two and above.

The big question: Who will be the first to hole out in one? Located just below the treetop adventure course, the Monts Jura mini-golf course offers a 12-hole course suitable for the whole family. Grab your putters!

For a change of pace, the Menth’Évasion tree-top adventure park in Menthières also offers several forest trails set in unspoilt natural surroundings.
This tree-top adventure park comprises six courses, some of which are suitable for children aged two and above.

Take the plunge

For thrill-seekers, bungee jumping promises a real adrenaline rush and stunning views of the surrounding countryside. 

How the jump works: The instructor on site will secure you in place, and when you’re ready, all you have to do is take a small step – and off you go in freefall!

How about swapping a hike for a round of golf?

In Mijoux, the Golf de la Valserine offers a sporting break amidst the Jura countryside. Its 9-hole course can be enjoyed at your own pace, whether you’re looking to improve your game or simply to enjoy a round of golf. It’s the perfect way to add some variety to your stay in the Pays de Gex.

Here, cycling takes on all its forms: thrilling descents at Lélex-Crozet, a taste of the Col de la Faucille, and spectacular panoramic views as a backdrop.

Taking your first spin on the Col de la Faucille

At Col de la Faucille, it’s all about learning and exploring. The mountain biking area features a range of fun modules that allow both children and adults to learn the basics of riding in complete safety.

Footbridges, banked bends and small obstacles provide the perfect terrain for building confidence before tackling more technical courses.

The key information: Don’t have a bike? Local rental companies offer mountain bikes and electric mountain bikes suitable for all abilities, as well as supervised lessons so you can try the sport with complete peace of mind.

Take part in the summer’s major events

Summer in the Jura Mountains is also characterised by a festive atmosphere, thanks to a number of unmissable events.

The Woodcutters’ Festival

A flagship event for the region, the 50th edition of the Fête des Bûcherons celebrates the timber industry and mountain traditions. The programme includes demonstrations of competitive woodcutting, entertainment, shows and a warm, friendly atmosphere.

The Dahu Festival

It’s impossible to talk about the Jura Mountains without mentioning the famous dahu. On the first Sunday in August, this family-friendly festival celebrates this legendary creature of the mountains with a touch of humour, featuring entertainment, games and opportunities to socialise.

The Haymaking Festival in Chézery-Forens

In August, the village of Chézery-Forens celebrates its agricultural and mountain heritage with the Révôle des Foins festival. Over the course of a whole weekend, locals, volunteers and visitors gather to enjoy hay bale throwing demonstrations , vintage tractors, craft activities, music and a host of festivities.

The Tour de France in the Pays de Gex – Monts Jura

This year, the Jura Mountains will have the honour of hosting a stage of the Tour de France. It is a unique opportunity to watch the world’s best cyclists in action against a stunning backdrop and to experience the unrivalled atmosphere of the Tour de France in the heart of the Jura Mountains.

In the Men’s Tour de France, Stage 15, taking place on Sunday 19 July 2026, passes through the region. This stage runs from Champagnole to the Plateau de Solaison, covering approximately 184 km, with a mountain finish that promises to be a spectacular day.

In the Women’s Tour de France, Stage 3, which takes place on Monday 3 August, runs from Geneva to Poligny over a distance of 157 km.
