What local produce does Pays de Gex have to offer?

When you go on holiday to Pays de Gex, you’ll be able to discover the culture of our region, visit iconic monuments such as the Château de Voltaire, admire breathtaking panoramas from our many hiking trails… As well as tasting our tasty local specialities !

Because if a region can be discovered visually, it can also be tasted. Close to Savoie and Switzerland, Pays de Gex is a region where cheese is king. Here, you can enjoy delicious fondues, raclettes and even Gexiflettes! Never heard the name before? That’s normal: Gexiflette is totally emblematic of the Pays de Gex and is cooked like a tartiflette with Bleu de Gex cheese. This cheese is a typical local food, and you’ll find it everywhere.

Pays de Gex also has other specialities such as papette, a sweet yellow tart flavoured with orange blossom or vanilla.

To discover these specialities, taste them and then cook them at home, visit local producers in the Pays de Gex. There’s nothing better than getting the product from its source, is there?

Where can you buy local produce in Pays de Gex?

There’s nothing like visiting the small, local producers in the Pays de Gex to sample some great local produce.

Are you a cheese fan? Visit the Abbaye cheese dairy in Chézery-Forens. Here, you can follow the various stages in the production of Bleu de Gex and taste a number of cheeses typical of the region. Try not to take the whole shop with you!

For something sweet, you can then head to Jardin des Reines in Ornex, where Alison offers several types of honey and organic royal jelly.

In terms of drinks, whether you prefer beer, wine or spirits, you’ll find something to suit your taste (or rather your producer’s taste). Fill up before you leave to take a little piece of the Pays de Gex home with you!
