Chasselas, Mondeuse, Gamaret, Altesse, Pinot Noir… At Domaine de Mucelle, these grape varieties are crafted into vibrant, authentic wines produced using organic farming methods. These are wines with character, combining freshness, finesse, and expressive fruit flavors.
In Challex, the Domaine de Mucelle carries on a winemaking tradition deeply rooted in its region. On 8 hectares of hillsides facing primarily southeast, the vines benefit from an environment particularly conducive to grape ripening. The estate cultivates a range of grape varieties that reflect the richness of the local winemaking heritage: Chasselas, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Pinot Gris, Altesse, Muscat, Gamaret, Mondeuse, and Persan.
Since 2000, the vineyard has been managed using organic farming methods, with a focus on soil health and natural balance. Vineyard work prioritizes precise and respectful techniques, while hand-harvesting allows for the selection of grapes directly in the vineyard. Each step is thus designed to preserve the quality of the fruit and highlight the distinctive characteristics of each grape variety.
The estate is now led by Alexandre Jouin, who brings to the project experience gained at renowned wineries in Burgundy and Switzerland. His approach combines technical rigor with a commitment to producing authentic, approachable wines that are deeply rooted in their terroir.
The best way to discover Domaine de Mucelle is through tasting: fresh, expressive whites; fruity or more structured reds; regional grape varieties and rarer ones make up a lineup that sparks curiosity. Each cuvée offers a new way to explore this unassuming yet unique vineyard in the Pays de Gex.
It’s an ideal stop for visitors wishing to discover another facet of the region’s winemaking heritage and to experience a winery that places the diversity of grape varieties and respect for the terroir at the heart of its identity.

The vineyard has been 100% certified organic since 2000: the number of treatments is kept to a minimum, with a focus on sulfur and copper, and insecticides are strictly prohibited. The grapes are harvested by hand to allow for sorting. The vineyard also produces organic grains.
