Which routes should I take?
From France, there are three main motorways leading to the destination:
- the A40 from Mâcon towards Geneva;
- the A39 from Dijon towards Geneva;
- The A41 from Grenoble and Chambéry towards Geneva.
From Switzerland,the A1 also provides easy access to the Geneva area and the Pays de Gex.
As a guide, the Pays de Gex is about 1 hour 30 minutes from Lyon and 20 minutes from Geneva, depending on your starting point and traffic conditions.
Head to the Jura Mountains
Fancy getting up high? From the Pays de Gex, the Col de la Faucille is one of the most iconic routes into the Jura Mountains.
Depending on where you’re staying, you can then head to the various areas within the destination, including Gex, Mijoux, Lélex, La Vattay and the Col de la Faucille.
In winter, remember to check the road conditions before setting off and to ensure you have the right equipment for driving in the mountains.
Are you travelling through Switzerland?
If your route takes you along Swiss motorways, an annual motorway vignette is compulsory.
For 2026, the price listed on our website is €44.50. It is also available for purchase at our tourist information offices in Gex and Lélex.

HéLéman Pays de Gex is a car-sharing service operating without the need for bookings between Valserhône and Divonne-les-Bains, travelling towards Saint-Genis-Pouilly and Meyrin, with 18 stops from the outset. This service allows you to carpool without booking, without having to plan your journeys in advance. Drivers only suggest their route when they get into their car and enter it on the app. It’s the same for passengers: they simply go to the stop and make a request.
Requests are displayed on illuminated signs placed at the roadside.
This public service, run by the French Genevois Metropolitan Area, is free for passengers and drivers are reimbursed for their time.
Several objectives:
- Reducing traffic congestion
- Reducing pollution
- To provide an additional transport solution
- Strengthening solidarity
