Description

A beautiful, accessible loop that circles the Vattay plateau. Between clearings and forest edges, the route offers varied scenery and opens up to superb views, particularly of the Jura Mountains and the Col de la Faucille pass.

The start and finish are at the Domaine de la Vattay, where there is an entrance fee. As with any route through a protected natural area, it is essential to comply with the regulations in force (no dogs, stay on the marked trails, no unnecessary noise, etc.).

Getting to the starting point Report a problem

Step 1: Nordic Centre

Start: Make your way from the entrance of La Vattay to the ticket control hut.

Step 2: Departure into the forest – Control hut

Head towards the plateau, then take the wide track into the forest.

Step 3: Vattay Plateau

After about 500 m, you will come to a more open area. The route runs alongside and between the two cross-country ski trails until the next junction.

Step 4: Squirrel Crossing

Keep to the right and continue along the path on the right of the plateau with a view of La Dôle. The trail alternates between forest edges and open clearings.

Step 5: Pillarde Crossroads

At the junction, turn left and complete the loop to cross to the other side of the plateau and begin the return journey at the edge of the forest. This section offers a different perspective of the plateau, with a view of the Jura Mountains and, in particular, Col de la Faucille in the distance.

Step 6: The squirrel's return

The route joins the return section of the Écureuil walk and continues back.

Step 7: Departure into the forest – Control hut

You will then rejoin the outward trail, which takes you to the finish at La Vattay after a final, short uphill.
