Hiking: Crozet to Crêt de la Neige via La Calame

(1) Departure from the Fierney gondola car park.
From the car park, take the road leading to the cable car. Pass under the cable car and join the route de la Thène
.
(2) The path starts at a footbridge on the left and climbs rapidly, accumulating several metres of positive gradient in the direction of the upper station of the Fierney gondola. The path first crosses the Col de Crozet forestry road before entering the Nature Reserve. There are two more crossings with this road/path before you reach the top station of the cable car.

(3) When you reach the mountain pastures, go around the upper station to the left, gaining height, then climb back up along the Bergers cable car, gaining a few more metres in height. The path follows a level curve. At a crossroads, head towards Montoiseau.

(4) Once you reach the summit of Montoiseau (1599 m), turn left across the combe à Fournier to go around Montoisey. Enter the Nature Reserve and continue towards Grand Crêt (1702 m). Go past this point to reach the ‘Sous le Crêt’ junction.

(5) Follow the red and white GR markings on the ridges. From the ‘Sous le Crêt’ junction, continue straight on to the Crêt de la Neige (1720 m).

(6) To return, retrace your steps for a few dozen metres on the red and white GR. Then turn right onto the yellow PR towards Curson. Turn direct left

Description

Set off on a high-altitude adventure to the highest point in the Jura Massif. This varied route takes you through cool undergrowth, along open ridges and through changing landscapes rich in contrasts. Along the way, you'll enjoy superb views of the Lake Geneva basin and, when the sky is clear, the majestic Mont Blanc. The route combines shady stretches with grandiose panoramas, offering a fast-paced, rejuvenating hike. When it's open, the Fierney cable car makes it easy to gain altitude without losing any of the diversity of the scenery. It's the perfect mountain getaway for exploring the very essence of the Haute Chaîne du Jura.

The route takes in the heart of the Haut-Jura Regional Nature Park, and part of the Haute Chaîne du Jura National Nature Reserve: a protected, unspoilt area to be explored with respect.
