On your itinerant hike, you may come across several types of hut. Some, like the chalet du Sac are fairly basic, with just a few bunks and a wood-burning stove. Others, like Le Télémark Gîte in Lélex, offer meals and a little more comfort.

Whether all you need is a bed, a table to eat at and some warmth to recharge your batteries, or a more spacious and comfortable Jura refuge, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for in our selection. Some refuges do not require prior booking, but remember to check before you go!

If you would like more information about our refuges in the Jura, please contact one of our agencies in Pays de Gex. We’ll be happy to advise you and point you in the direction of the gîte or refuge best suited to your itinerant tour. So, are you ready for adventure?

While some walks are half-day or full-day hikes, others take several days to complete. In Pays de Gex, this is the case for the GR®9, which stretches for almost 1,000 kilometres from the Jura to the Mediterranean.

Of course, you may not have the time or inclination to cover that many kilometres, but if you want to hike for several days to complete a few stages, you’ll need to find somewhere to stay. You can opt for the “tent” solution and bivouac in the mountains, but that’s not possible everywhere in the Jura, particularly in the heart of the Haute Chaîne du Jura Nature Reserve. If you’re looking for a little more comfort, consider a Jura refuge.

In these short-stay accommodations, you can sleep on a mattress and enjoy a little more warmth than outside. You can prepare basic meals inside and meet other hikers passing through. Some gîtes and refuges even offer a catering service, like The Loge Refuge in Lélex. After a good night’s sleep in the warmth, you’ll be ready to climb the peaks of the Jura!
