Stones and lapidary museum

History of the gem-cutting trade up to the present day. How these stones are used to create jewellery. Movie, stones and gems collection.

While the word "lapidary" is still very much ingrained in the memories of the people of our region, the same is not true for the majority of people, besides, do you know what a lapidary is? Our museum, in Mijoux in the Haut Jura, enables you to discover in more detail the origins of this profession and broadly the marvellous world of gemstones. You will find an exhibition of rough and cut stones from the four corners of the world along with a selection of period tools used by the Lapidaries of the Haut Jura. To complete the visit, an informative video illustrates the different stages of stone cutting and the origins of this atypical activity in our region.

Tips: Window workshop for observing the manufacturing process. Large choice of jewellery in our shop.
