The Association des Piétons et Cyclistes du Pays de Gex (APiCy) was created in the summer of 2011 by a small group of people who get around on foot or by bike.
The role of APICY, the Association of Pedestrians and Cyclists, is to:
facilitate, encourage, make safer and develop walking and cycling (active mobility) in the Pays de Gex and Terre Valserhone areas;
defend the rights of pedestrians and cyclists on roads and other spaces open to public traffic in the Pays de Gex and Terre Valserhone regions before public authorities;
promote the social and convivial aspects of active mobility, in particular, but not exclusively, as a means of social integration and appropriation of the territory.
Bike rides and walks are regularly offered via the website.
The members of the pedestrian and cyclist association committee study and submit proposals or services to the public authorities with the aim of facilitating and making walking and cycling safer, such as:
developing public traffic areas with a view to better sharing between pedestrians, cyclists and other users, or creating specific inter-municipal routes.
APICY aims to encourage or participate in awareness campaigns and the development of all means designed to promote active modes of transport, walking and cycling, in the Pays de Gex and Terre Valserhone regions.
to encourage and actively participate in projects or events aimed at raising awareness of the problems associated with car use in towns and cities and the advantages of other active modes of transport.
To this end, the association meets regularly with elected representatives and technical experts from local authorities, communities of municipalities and the department. The minutes of these meetings are published on our website.
We speak: German, English, French, Czech, Norwegian, Danish.
