Col de Menthières from Confort

Off to the Valserine Valley!

The Col de Menthières (1,128 m.), accessible from the commune of Confort near Valserhône, is a 9 km ascent on a country road with a regular but steady profile (578 m vertical drop, i.e. an average gradient of 6.2%).
This pass in the Valserine valley is located in the commune of Chézery-Forens, and provides a mountain road link to the hamlet of Menthières. At this altitude, access to the hamlet from Chézery-Forens can be complicated in winter, as was the case from December 1951 to March 1952.
The Col de Menthières is regularly used by the Tour de l'Ain (2009, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2021) and will see the riders battle it out again on August 11, 2022, before the finish, still scheduled for Lélex-Monts Jura.
