String ensemble directed by Sergio Lamberto. Soloists: Dagoberto Linhares, guitar and Victor Villena, bandoneon. Works by G. Holts, B. Le Clair, A. Piazzolla, E. Greg, G. Beliczay
The Festival's string ensemble, comprising 13 young string players: violins, violas, cellos and double bass, will be conducted by Maestro Sergio Lamberto (professor at Turin Conservatory). In the first half, they will perform works by Gustave Holst, an English composer; Brice Le Clair, (this work by a young French composer will be a premiere), then the double concerto for guitar and bandoneon by the great Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, to be performed by Dagoberto Linhares on guitar and Victor Villena on bandoneon, that undisputed instrument of Argentine culture… In the second part, the strings will play melodies by by Norwegian composer Edouard Grieg, and a serenade by Hungarian composer Gyula Beliczay. These two composers, whose writing emphasizes the warm sonority of strings, each in their own way spread the spirit of Romanticism throughout Europe at the end of the 19th century.
