La Comédie à Ferney
The Sunday 22 March at 17 a.m00
Comédie de Ferney 33 Grand’rue 01210 Ferney-Voltaire
It's full of wit, finesse, truculence, turbulence and, of course, twists and turns! The authors seem to know Voltaire well, and… Marivaux is not far off.
La Comédie à Ferney, by Louis Lurine and Pierre Alberic Second
Published in 1854 by La Librairie Théâtrale, this one-act comedy was first performed at Le Théâtre Français on July 15, 1854, and ran for over a hundred dates.
What talent and the art of comedy in these two writers. It’s full of wit, finesse, truculence, turbulence and, of course, twists and turns! They seem to know Voltaire well, and Marivaux is not far behind.
On stage in 1765 to be precise: Voltaire in his château de Fernex, his valet Jacquot, the Prince de Ligne, a brilliant and colorful character, and a couple from Geneva!… Quite unexpected…
There’s fun to be had at the château, games to be played, invective to be exchanged and reconciliation to be achieved, love to be had and love to be lost… The worst truths are told: no one is fooled!
Voltaire is at ease. He’s in his element: Comedy within Comedy!
“Par le Styx! Oath of a great poet!
By chance(?), a Ferney friend offered me this text, which he found in a Ferneys antique shop a few years ago.
Many thanks to him!
La Comédie à Ferney at La Comédie de Ferney…
Voltaire had it all planned.
