Jazz In : Burgundy Swing
The Sunday 03 August at 14 a.m30
Golf de la valserine 2278 Route de la Combe en Haut Hameau la Pellagrue 01410 Mijoux
The festival is moving to the golf course for a concert that will have jazz and golf lovers dreaming.
Burgundy Swing was formed in 2008 by a group of old hands from the Burgundy jazz scene, most of whom had played together in various regional bands (Jazzogènes, Anthracite Jazz Band, Jazz Daniel Puddlers).
They play the jazz of the swing period, which saw the emergence of a number of small groups that came together for a recording session, alongside the rise of the big bands. Among these small groups, which generally featured the best soloists from a big band, stand out those assembled in the mid-1940s by drummer Cozy Cole, whose best arrangements have been recorded by the excellent pianist Jean-Claude Villeboeuf.
Served up by a tightly-knit team, the musicians demonstrate an infectious energy and an overflowing swing, this music exudes joie de vivre and the pleasure of playing together. These boys come straight from Burgundy, a joyous region which, like the festive nature of our friends, does not breed melancholy. The atmosphere will be all about the Swing years from 1935 to 1950 and you won’t be able to stop tapping your foot or snapping your fingers.
Musicians: Michel Maitrehenry, cornet; Rodolphe Campomizzi, trombone; Yves Dechaume, guitar, banjo; Patrice Lamblin, tenor saxophone; Jean-Claude Villeboeuf, piano; Pierrot Cheteau, double bass; Eric Serrad, drums.
An introduction to golf will be offered by the Golf Référence team at 11am and 5pm.
