Feydeau's play combines all the ingredients that have made the master of vaudeville famous: burlesque situations and interlocking misunderstandings, plus the theme of the doppelganger.
Raymonde Chandebise suspects her husband Victor-Emmanuel of adultery. A parcel from the Hôtel du Minet-Galant gave her the “bug”. Determined to catch him, she sends him an anonymous letter, asking him to meet her at the hotel in question. There, the resemblance between Chandebise and Poche, the hotel's drunken valet, leads to a series of misunderstandings, much to the delight of the spectator.
Set in the mountains of the 1960s, Lilo Baur directs the actors at a frenetic pace that satisfies their love of acting.
