J.S. Bach: The Goldberg Variations – string trio version

The Goldberg Variations, or “Aria with some variations for two-manual harpsichord”, is a work composed by Johann Sebastian Bach around 1740, taken from the second book of the Well-Tempered Clavier, written for his wife, Anna Magdalena, in 1725.
Of rare contrapuntal density, the variations revolve around a theme that is a peaceful Aria in sarabande form. In the version transcribed for string trio by Dmitry Sitkovetsky, the work is revealed in a whole new light, offering a beautiful dialogue between violin, viola and cello, where the three voices listen and breathe together.
