The Trial of Jeanne Bloch

Synopsis:
“In a time that is never specified but resembles our own, Jeanne Bloch served as Prime Minister of France for 10 months amid a severe political crisis.

Five years later, after an authoritarian regime has seized power, Jeanne Bloch is summoned to court, accused of betraying the people she was responsible for. A young lawyer seeks to turn her trial into a political platform by refusing to play by the opponent’s rules. But Jeanne is determined to defend herself against the charges leveled against her.

The play alternates between court hearings under heavy security and flashbacks that reveal a perilous and tense period in government, set against the backdrop of rising fascist threats.
Part courtroom drama, part political thriller, and part nuanced portrait of a mysterious figure, *The Trial of Jeanne Bloch*
invents an imaginary “national narrative,” interwoven with historical references and contemporary insights.”
