Textile Art Exhibition: “Mémoire des lisières” by Serge Lecoq

The Saturday 12 September

1e etage en face des escalators Art Gallery – Espace Candide, route de meyrin 01210 Ferney-Voltaire

Discover Serge Lecoq’s work at the Art Gallery Espace Candide, where material becomes language and memory. Through canvases that are torn, pieced together, and stitched, the artist explores the end of a cycle and the promise of a metamorphosis.

At the intersection of raw material and memory, Serge Lecoq engages in a
visceral dialogue with the canvas. Echoing the Support/Surface movement,
he liberates the medium from its traditional function: here, the fabric does not merely receive the image;
it becomes the image.
In this series, Serge Lecoq explores the end of a cycle, when the summer light
fades and the shadows lengthen. His works resonate with the rituals of the
Alpine valleys, that suspended moment when, in an ancestral gesture, one burns
straw effigies—the Paolles—to bring the harvest to a close and prepare for renewal.
The artist’s work thus evokes an ancestral imagination. His canvases, lacerated by the
gesture, are like skins that are torn open only to be sutured back together. The patchwork
becomes an architecture of memory, an assemblage of fragments where the
stitches mark the scars of time.
The works presented here are the result of this transmutation: a material
that is alternately wounded and repaired, reminding us that every end of summer is a
promise of metamorphosis.
Between symbolic ash and the sturdiness of the weave, Serge Lecoq invites us
on a journey where material becomes language, and the gesture, a celebration of
what survives the blaze.
