But did you know that when he played in Duke Ellington’s orchestra, Sidney Bechet was fired for failing to show up for three concerts in a row? Or that he spent eleven months in Fresnes prison for shooting a banjo player during a heated argument? From his first concerts in Louisiana to his concerts on the French Riviera, via the famous Revue Nègre alongside Josephine Baker, Sidney Bechet led a whirlwind, exciting and tumultuous life, which this musical show will retrace for a beautiful start to the 2026 season of Jazz In Fort L’Ecluse Chez Voltaire.
