Why ski in the Jura?
Skiing is an integral part of the Jura’s history: in the past, local people used skis to get around during the harsh winters. Since then, many ski champions have been born in the area, which is also home to one of France’s first winter sports resorts: Les Rousses.
Here, everything is done to ensure you enjoy the best possible skiing conditions. Great snow conditions, accessible and well-equipped resorts, breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, Geneva and Lake Geneva…
Whether you’re more of an alpine or cross-country skier, or even a snowshoer, the Jura resorts are full of slopes and winter activities for you, your partner or the whole family.
Downhill skiing: Where to ski in the Jura?
Whether you’re a thrill-seeker or just a beginner, the Monts Jura ski resort has a huge playground divided into three very different areas: Lélex Crozet for the more experienced, Mijoux-La Faucille and Menthières for families.
The Jura ski area of Lélex-Crozet
Experienced skiers, free-riders and snowboarders, the Lélex-Crozet ski area is for you! With 20km of pistes and vertical drops of up to 800 metres, this is the place for skiers looking for freedom and thrills. The 140 snow guns in this Jura ski area guarantee snow all season long.
There’s plenty for the less experienced too, with 7 green runs and 6 blue runs and a magnificent panorama of Mont Blanc.
Mijoux-La Faucille, a family estate
The more family-friendly Mijoux-La Faucille ski area is ideal for beginners. It has 15km of gently sloping runs, including 2 green runs, 6 blue runs, 3 red runs and 1 black run.
If you want to explore the area on foot, you can take one of the 3 signposted snowshoe trails from the Col de la Faucille. The village of Mijoux, with its pretty Jura houses, is also well worth a visit.
The Domaine de Menthières, perfect for apprenticeships
Like the Mijoux-La Faucille ski area, Menthières is an ideal place to learn to ski. You or your children can practise on the beginners’ slope or the two green slopes in the area. Two restaurants are available for a midday snack.
La Vattay-Valserine, a renowned Jura resort
The Monts Jura ski area doesn’t stop at downhill skiing – quite the contrary! The resort has one of the largest Nordic areas in France, La Vattay-Valserine. Labelled a “Site of Excellence”, it boasts 130km of pistes, with more than 10 loops ranging from green to black runs.
Here you can practise skating or alternating but also discover biathlon if you want to try something new. Don’t have any equipment? There’s a hire shop on the resort, as well as an out-of-bagroom and a restaurant.
