In the heart of the Pays de Gex, between Switzerland and the Jura mountains, the Monts Jura resort boasts an internationally renowned Nordic ski area: the Vattay-Valserine domain. Some of the world’s greatest champions have trained and competed here!

With 130 kilometres of pistes, La Vattay is now one of the largest Nordic ski areas in France.

From the Vattay plateau to the Valserine valley, the site offers 14 cross-country ski trails, including 3 green, 4 blue, 6 red and 1 black. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced skier, you’ll be able to explore this Nordic area at your leisure, using either alternating or skating cross-country skis.

Situated in the heart of the Haute Chaîne du Jura nature reserve, Domaine la Vattay-Valserine offers you the chance to practise your favourite sport in an unspoilt natural setting of forests and clearings. You’ll come face to face with breathtaking panoramas such as Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva. Breathtaking!

All the pistes are one-way. No more risk of colliding with another cross-country skier! A real plus, don’t you think? What’s more, the pistes are meticulously maintained by the groomers on a daily basis.

An accessible site

La Vattay-Valserine is one of the most accessible cross-country ski areas in the Jura in France. From Geneva airport, you can reach the slopes in less than an hour by shuttle bus or taxi/VTC.

You can also get to the estate by car: a free car park with over 900 spaces is available. From Lyon, it’s just a 2-hour drive to the estate, and just over 5 hours from Paris and Marseille.

Trains are also available to reach the estate. Bellegarde-sur-Valserine station is just 26 km from Lélex, while Geneva-Cornavin station is 15 km from Crozet. Shuttle buses run between the various Monts Jura sites.

Practical info

Although La Vattay has a wealth of cross-country ski trails, these are not its only assets. If you’re not keen on skiing, there are 3 signposted snowshoe trails and a footpath (for a fee), as well as dog sledding and family sledging.

For your convenience, the cross-country ski area has changing rooms and showers, as well as a restaurant and a salle hors sac for refreshments after a good session. A ski hire and sales shop is open throughout the winter if you don’t have your own equipment. Two ski schools are also available if you or your children would like to take lessons.
