After 2 and a half years of restoration work, the Château de Voltaire reopened its doors to the public in 2018. Thanks to a complete renovation, interior and exterior led by the Center for National Monuments (CMN), you will have the opportunity to discover a brand new monument and very beautiful collections that will allow you to dive into the spirit of this illustrious philosopher that was Voltaire.

A bit of history …

Voltaire acquired the castle in 1759, lived there for about twenty years, and wrote many works including the famous Philosophical Dictionary. He turned the Seigniory of Fernex, which was then “a miserable hamlet” of 200 souls, into a prosperous village of 1200 inhabitants.

  • Voltaire’s arrival in Ferney
  • The pilgrimage to Ferney after Voltaire’s death
  • The world of Madame Denis
  • Madame Denis’ maids’ room

In addition to discovering a house full of history and a true place of memory, you will have access to the park of more than 7 hectares, a true jewel of greenery in the heart of a dynamic city!
